Errors in keratometric measurements are responsible for about 10% of refractive errors after cataract surgery. 5 One of the most important parameters in calculating lens power is keratometry. 4Ī non-contact optical biometry remains the gold standard for measuring intraocular lens power before cataract surgery. A significant postoperative refractive error is defined as the difference between the expected and actual spherical equivalent of postoperative refraction above 1.0 D. 3 Competition between centers and increasingly higher patient expectations cause the need to optimize this procedure and systematically reduce the refractive error rate. 1, 2 It is estimated that 7 million such procedures are performed per year in Europe and 20 million worldwide. The results unanimously indicate that refractive errors can be reduced by proper treatment of DED before cataract surgery.Ĭataract removal surgery is one of the most commonly performed eye surgeries. The refractive error was significantly lower after treatment in all studies. Various substances have been used to treat dry eye, such as cyclosporin A, liftitegrast, and loteprednol. In all studies, biometry was performed before and after dry eye treatment, and the mean absolute error was compared. Four clinical studies evaluating the effect of DED on refractive errors were included. PubMed database was searched for keywords: cataract surgery, dry eye disease, refractive error, refractive outcomes, keratometry, and biometry. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of DED on biometric measurements before cataract surgery and postoperative refractive errors. DED also significantly disturbs preoperative biometric measurements, mainly by changes in keratometry measurements. Numerous reports confirm an increase in dry eye symptoms after cataract surgery. It tends to cause a combination of symptoms from the other three types of uveitis.Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial ocular surface disorder characterized by loss of tear film homeostasis with associated ocular symptoms, like dryness, foreign body sensation, and inflammation. Panuveitis is characterized by inflammation in all three layers of your uvea. It tends to be more serious than iritis, but is also the least common form of uveitis. Posterior uveitis affects your choroid that contains blood vessels that supply blood to the back of your eye. Intermediate uveitis causes inflammation of the ciliary body and the vitreous fluid inside your eye. The other three types of uveitis include the following: Intermediate uveitis It’s called recurrent iritis if it returns repeatedly. Iritis is called acute iritis if it lasts a short time and chronic iritis if it lasts a long time. It primarily affects people ages 20 to 60 and makes up about 50 to 70 percent of all uveitis cases. Iritis tends to be the mildest type of uveitis and often occurs in otherwise healthy people. When your iris and the space in front of your iris are affected, the inflammation is called iritis or anterior uveitis. Inflammation of your uvea is called uveitis. This site explains how to find molar mass. The reason is that the molar mass of the substance affects the conversion. To complete this calculation, you have to know what substance you are trying to convert. For bulk stoichiometric calculations, we are usually determining molar mass, which may also be called standard atomic weight or average atomic mass.Ī common request on this site is to convert grams to moles. This is not the same as molecular mass, which is the mass of a single molecule of well-defined isotopes. This is how to calculate molar mass (average molecular weight), which is based on isotropically weighted averages. The atomic weights used on this site come from NIST, the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The formula weight is simply the weight in atomic mass units of all the atoms in a given formula. When calculating molecular weight of a chemical compound, it tells us how many grams are in one mole of that substance. In chemistry, the formula weight is a quantity computed by multiplying the atomic weight (in atomic mass units) of each element in a chemical formula by the number of atoms of that element present in the formula, then adding all of these products together.įinding molar mass starts with units of grams per mole (g/mol). grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to micromol.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to atom.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to decimol.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to centimol.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to picomol.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to kilomol.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to molecule.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to millimol.grams Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to nanomol.Moles Cobalt(II) Nitrate Hexahydrate to grams, or enter other units to convert below: Enter two units to convert From: Type in unit symbols, abbreviations, or full names for units of length, area, mass, pressure, and other types. You can do the reverse unit conversion from You can find metric conversion tables for SI units, as well as English units, currency, and other data. On Dartmoor I've seen tiny peat puddles crammed with frog spawn in early spring, but know that in most years a dry spell will quickly empty these puddles of the water needed by the emerging tadpoles. The new tadpoles start off black but soon become speckled brown, unlike the permanent black tadpoles of toads. The clumps will usually contain 3-400 eggs, and differ in structure from toad spawn which is laid in strings. In recent years reports of initial frog spawn sightings have been much earlier, but it is hard to measure the success of these early breeders.įrogs can be pretty indiscriminate where they lay their spawn, any patch of still water seems to do. This type of mating is called amplexus, which comes from the Latin verb 'to embrace'. Frog spawn is fertilized externally, with the smaller male on the female's back. Average size is 6-9cm, with the males considerably smaller than the females.ĭuring a particularly mild winter frogs will hardly hibernate, but if they do they will emerge from their slumber in February and will produce spawn soon after. A dark patch behind the eye and barred hind limbs are the only consistent markings. The underside is usually dirty white or pale yellow. They appear spotted or striped, but again this varies greatly. Their upper colouration is extremely variable, usually yellowish brown to brown but can be olive green, or in some cases a yellow or even reddish appearance. They have a very characteristic horizontal and oval shaped eye. This is a smooth skinned tailless amphibian, famous for jumping rather than walking. An editor at Scholastic Books saw that photo and reached out to Wick and Marzollo about creating a children’s search and find book, which soon became the beloved classic we know today. The author of I Spy, Jean Marzollo, ended up seeing the picture and asked Wick to create a photo for her magazine, Let’s Find Out. One evening in the early 1980s, he took a photo of spare nuts and bolts that had been laying around his studio and used the image to promote his work. They were all made using real objects, rather than drawings or editing on a computer.īefore venturing into the world of I Spy, Wick had been working as a commercial photographer in New York City. When you were a kid, did you fill long car rides and flights on planes with the classic game of I Spy? It’s been at least a decade since I’ve played it, but I still remember the thrill of feeling like I could read someone else’s mind and knowing exactly what they were spying on my first guess. Ebooks can be read in any of the four orientations, but the reader’s menu page only displays in portrait mode. The funny thing is, I never really noticed how cramped those smaller readers can feel until I was presented with so much screen space to show so much more text at the same font size.Īnother difference from the Clara is, of course, the gyroscopic screen orientation detector, which will flip the page so it’s upright whatever way you hold the reader. It’s like a hardcover book’s page, in comparison to the smaller readers’ paperback equivalents. This is a reading experience akin to what I had reading ebooks on the Onyx Boox Max 2, only nowhere near as heavy and bulky. Look at how much more of it there is on the Forma! Here it is side-by-side with the Kobo Clara, displaying the same text at approximately the same font size and weight. The other huge difference is the reader’s huge 8″ screen. Living in Screen Real Estate Left: the Kobo Clara. And yet for all its lightness, it doesn’t feel cheap, like the RCA Voyager II tablet did in comparison to the Fire-it’s compact and dense enough that it actually has a good heft for its size. Holding it honestly feels like I’m holding something out of a science-fiction movie–a nearly weightless display panel capable of displaying a hardcover page’s worth of print. It’s easy to use one-handed, or to place my other hand along the other edge to hold it in both.Īnd this reader is so light, it’s almost unreal. While I don’t have any experience using the Oasis, I have to say the Forma’s version feels natural in my hand the added heft on the spine side makes it easier to maneuver the rest of it. This shape largely went by the wayside as early e-ink designs focused on flat, symmetrical tablet shapes, but it’s come back in recent years. The Rocket eBook also had a thicker spine, with page-turn buttons, and so did a few other LCD e-readers of the day. But the rest of it is less than a centimeter thick.Īlthough I say the thicker spine design is “like the Kindle Oasis,” it actually harkens back to some of the earliest ereader designs. Like the Kindle Oasis, it has an asymmetric design featuring a thicker “spine” with page-turn buttons, which can be used ambidextrously thanks to the device’s built-in orientation gyroscope. The Kobo Forma has to rate as one of the thinnest e-readers I’ve ever used–or at least, most of it does. So, instead, I’ll try to go over some of the biggest differences. Indeed, I could just copy and paste large portions of my Clara review here, and they would be equally valid. I haven’t noticed any significant differences in the way the reader operates it seems to have all the same features, the same fonts, the same greater adjustability of font size and weight than the Kindle offers, the same editable configuration files, the same space-wasting page footer that can be removed via a little judicious config-file editing, the same night reading mode that tints the screen orange, and so on. So here are my thoughts.įor starters, the operating system seems to be basically the same as the one that powers the Clara, which I reviewed a couple of months ago. I’ll try to go into more detail about the reader in a later post, but I figured I should go ahead and get my first impressions down right away, before interest dies down. I haven’t had a whole lot of opportunity to play with it, what with my day job and such, but I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen so far. I opened it up to discover a review unit of Kobo’s very latest e-reader, the Forma, due to hit stores in a couple of weeks. Late last night, as I stepped out the door to release some fully charged Lime scooters, I noticed a courier package waiting on my porch. |
